5th International Symposium-Workshop on Frugivores and Seed Dispersal (1985-2010)
Few months ago, the Frugivore of the Month was a tropical rat, a big one. To date, no studies has been carried out about its scatter-hoarding behavior and ability to disperse seeds. During the fruit season, often the wet one, rat cache seeds in both scatter - and larder-hoards, and are able to retrieve them later on when food is scarce, generally during the wet-to-dry transition. Such a 'smart' aptitude has been applied to save many human lifes and legs. The organization Apodo received this year in August the Skoll Foundation Award. Definitely, Cricetomys rats are common Heroes. That is great news to remind while we just celebrated the 60th aniversary of the Declaration of the Human rights.
