5th International Symposium-Workshop on Frugivores and Seed Dispersal (1985-2010)
FSD2010.org has a new banner with pictures especially selected for colorblind people. Historically, studies on frugivores and seed dispersal focused on flying and arboreal mammals, and (flying) birds. A number of them focused on colors of fruit, either red, yellow or orange, for instance, consumed by frugivores. Colorblind people, especially those with red/green deficiency, are most unlikely to detect them in the canopy, as well as red animals on green foliage background. Here, terrestrial birds (left) are trumpeters (Psophia crepitans) from Brownsberg Natural Park, Suriname, as well as the understory unidentified melastom plant with blue fruit (right). Blue berry fruit (center) are from the 20-m Silver Quandong tree (Elaeocarpus augustifolius) which are consumed by cassowary (Casuarius casuarius) that disperse seeds in Australia tropical rainforest.
